My negative feelings about the various Bose cube speakers and HTib systems are a result of my own evaluation of their products which occurred well before I joined this forum or read and reviews of the Bose Cubes. Thanks for your thoughts and your time fellas. Have been lurking on ebay and other places looking for a decent deal. I had thought about your suggestion to buy the cable and just extend it, and that is probably what I will do. But I figure it's worth 200, and I don't mind owning used stuff. For one thing, it's just outside my budget - I'm not paying 800 dollars for ANY HT system.

I agree that 7 or 8 hundred bucks is more than a system like this ought to cost new, and I would never pay that. Frankly I don't want a hole lot of volume anyway, just clean sound that fills the space.

And the series III is actually a powered sub, so we'll see how that goes (of course, it's just a little 5 or 6 inch driver, so obviously it can't perform like some top of the line 20" sub or something). The thing that drew me to these systems was the apparent simplicity and compact design. I expect I will find out for myself, and I hope not to be too disappointed. I don't know anything about the customer satisfaction end of things with Bose. I had just noticed in some forums a real serious hatred seemingly abounding from all angles. Likewise, I was not aiming any negative comments at you. Through the years Bose has made some decent speakers but the cubes are not among their finest products, I also consider myself a reasonably sane person and I do own a set of Bose 901's from the 1970's and find them to be one of these best stereo music speakers from that era.

Perhaps $200 for a used AM6 set may be a fair price but paying $700 for a new AM6 is an outrageous price to pay for a 5.1 system that has a passive rather than a powered sub and comes with 5 cubes with drivers that cost no more than $1 to produce. if you spend any time reading posts on this forum you will see that no other brand of HT products have as many user problems and complaints as Bose Acoustimass and Lifestyle cube systems. However, we don't bash Bose just to bash Bose because they are a successful company.

I hope that your Bose cubes meet or exceed your expectations. This should allow you 20 feet to connect your bass module to your receiver if you need longer length you can splice on regular speaker wire or lamp cord as needed. If you researched the Bose Web site you would find that the 15 pin connector that you need to connect your bass module to the speaker connections on your receiver is 20 feet long with ( + -) bare wire on the ends. I think I'll be happy with it.Īnd if any of you guys know any other poor saps out there who were stupid enough to buy an AM6-III, and you think they can figure out the pinout on the connector, send them my way I want clear dialogue, decent volume, LFE I can feel, and an unobtrusive small package. And I don't want to cause myself any more hearing loss than I already have.

Do I expect to break windows and blow my hair back? No. I'll be tickled pink if I can get my $200 speakers sounding as good as I expect them to. I understand they are by no means the most expensive systems out there, so why all the fuss? People seem to hate Bose because they've created a name for themselves, they've done a good marketing job, and they offer a product that a fair number of people can afford. I think there may be some sour grapes of some sort at work here. When considering the quality of the sound, and what I have paid for this used set of speakers, I can see no reason for defaming them, "just because". I've always been very pleased with the sound I've heard from Bose systems. It does make me wonder a bit about the demographic of the folks who are so vocally negative (and I'm not including you in this Jason, you seem reasonably sane). It was only after picking up this set of speakers that I've come to find out how loathed the Bose name is among the cyber-audiophile clan.
